Wyoming Resource Education Days
WY SRM held the first Range Camp in 1976 at Buffalo, WY. Range camp coined its name, WyRED-Wyoming Youth Resource Education Days, in 1993, and aside from 1995, has occurred every year since.
What happens at WyRED?
Youth and Adults alike can attend the week long camp that focuses on all aspects of natural resource (range) management. Professionals and experts volunteer from across Wyoming to teach about plant identification, soils, wildlife habitat, water resources, GPS and map skills, and much more. The week is spent on the ground working with local ranches and seeing best management practices (conservation) at work. Be prepared to get your hands dirty!
The week ends with the State Judging contest to test your knowledge and skills learned throughout the week.
Can I Study In Advance?

WYRED 2025 Recap
This year WyRED was held in the beautiful location of the Jack Creek Crew Quarters in Carbon County. We had students from 5 locations- Cheyenne, Burlington, Worland, Mt View and Yoder. Students learned about plants, soils, ecological sites, grazing, wildlife and vegetation treatments. Some of the highlights included traveling to McCarty Canyon with the WGFD to look at shrub treatments, BDAs and water developments. We went to Aspen Alley to look at Aspen rejuvenation. The NRCS also showed us different sagebrush treatments including aeration and chemical treatment. One evening we had a professional networking night with local natural resource professionals. There were great conversations. The camp was rounded out with the Range judging contest.
